Animals That start with F – It is not exaggerating actually why people are expected to save the earth well. Beside us, there are many more creatures like the animals and plants that need foods and healthy environment as well. In fact, when some animals are died or even extinct, it is us, the human who also feels the bad effects.
Based on that facts, putting more efforts to keep them survive is our duty as the so-called smartest creature in the world, the human. Meanwhile, it is not bad to recognize those animals more like some of them with F the F initial below.
1. Fly
Fly is a type of insects in the order of Diptera. This animal must be really familiar to us for its common presence in our environment mainly around the trash and dirty areas. However, this animal also has many sub-species and each of them tends to be interested in one particular environment which is different from the others.
This animal is considered dangerous and unhealthy for its ability to carry numerous bacteria and germs. After being around the trash, they can just perch on your foods. That’s why, it is important for you to repel it sooner when the fly is around.
2. Fox
Fox is a general term to mention a sort of small carnivores with the characteristics of a snout, a pair of medium-sized earlobes, and having a relation with the dog. There are around 27 sub-species of the fox in the family of Canidae.
Fox lives in the forest in all continents in the world. They are a good runner as well as they eat the smaller animals like the rat, vole, rabbit, birds, insects, and more. In Great Britain, there is a traditional sport in which the athletes are required to hunt the fox by riding horses.
3. Fish
Fish is a general term to mention the water creatures that are good in swimming, breathing through the gill, and commonly having scales covering their body. However, people may call also some marine mammals like the whale and dolphin with a term of fish as well.
The fish itself refers to numerous species in various sizes and shapes. Besides, it is used also for any water animal whether it lives in the salty or the fresh water. Some of the fishes are healthy ingredients for foods while some others need to be protected since the number has been limited.
4. Frog
The frog is known as an amphibian that lives in both the land and the fresh water. the characteristics of frog’s physical appearance are the slippery body, varied colors, longer rear legs, and good abilities in swimming and jumping.
Frog itself is divided into some sub-species. Some of the species have other particular features including the nodules and pimples on the entire body. This species is one of some animals that pass through the metamorphosis phases. They grow up from the eggs, tadpoles, small frogs, to the adult frogs.
5. Flamingo
Flamingo is one of the long-bird species that live in colonies. They come from the genus of Phoenicopterus and the family of Phoenicopteridae. This bird is found in both the western and eastern sides of the world but it seems they are more in the eastern one.
It is predicted that initially, there are 6 sub-species of flamingo but two of them have been extinct. The main characteristic of this animal is the habit of standing up only with one leg. Adult flamingos have a pink body but as the babies born, they initially come out from the eggs in grey.
6. Firefly
Firefly is one of the most beautiful animals in the world. They fly around at night while turning on things like the lamps on their body. The light is produced by the cold beam with the wavelength of around 670 nanometers.
This animal is included in the family of Lampyridae and there are more than 2,000 species found in all continents and islands in the world. For the foods, this insect eats the plant liquid, tiny snails, worms, and other insects.
7. Fire Salamander
Fire Salamander is categorized in the family of Salamandridae. The length of the adult species is up to 12 inches although mostly, they are only around 8 inches. This animal is found in Europe, Africa, and some countries in the Middle East. The habit is the areas with a high level of humidity.
This animal is quite easy to take care of as a pet. One or two fire salamanders can be kept in an aquarium without making them fight or losing the oxygen. Meanwhile, the foods are the caterpillars and the moth’s larva.
8. Falcon
Falcon is a species that is very similar to the eagle in term of the physical appearance. However, their linkages are actually not really close. The eagle is classified in the family of Acciptridae while the falcon is in the family of falconidae.
Things that distinguish them the most is the size and the weight. Falcon is smaller than the eagle. As a result, it is able to fly faster. This type of bird can even fly with the speed of up to 320 km per hour. That’s why; falcon, particularly the Peregrine falcon, is the fastest bird in the world.
9. Flying Foxes
It is indeed called as a flying fox. However, this animal is not related to the fox but it is much closer to the bat. Yes, it is one of the bat species from the family of Pteropodidae. The flying foxes are mainly found in the tropical and subtropical areas mainly in the bushes and mangrove forest.
Despite flying, the animal has some habits just like the other bats. It uses the legs to hang with the upside down position.
10. Frill-Necked Lizard
This reptile is the only species from the family of Chlamydosaurus that still survives nowadays. The term of Chlamydosaurus itself is from Greece that means the coat or cloak. Indeed, the animal’s body is beautified by something like the frilly cloak on the neck.
When this lizard is angry or it feels threatened, it extends the frill up to 25 cm to show the enemies that they can be bigger and stronger. Besides, it can also camouflage by making the neck look weak and fragile.
11. Finch
Finch is a kind of bird that is still closely related to the sparrows. It lives in the Galapagos Island. Besides, this animal was one of the species used by Charles Darwin to prove the evolution theory and it is proven. The bird had a bigger size in the past and it shrinks the beak to consume more types of seeds.
It is predicted that the evolution is still ongoing. However, it is still not known yet how the bird will be in the past. There are some factors that cause the evolution of the bird. One of them is the limitation of the foods as well as the environment that has been polluted.
12. Fennec Fox
It is reasonable to say that the fennec fox is the cutest fox in the world. With the weight of only around a kg as well as the height of only 20 cm, it is really similar to the kitten. However, this fox has some abilities that other animals may not have. It can jump up to 6 meters and live without water longer than many other animals.
This fox is also called as the desert fox as the habitat is indeed in the desert area. They can be found in the desert zones of North Africa and Saudi Arabia.
13. Fossa
The fossa is a type of civet and one of the endemic mammals of Madagascar. This carnivore is included in the family of Eupleridae. Although many researchers agree that it tends to be closer to the ferret, some controversies were once arisen for its physical closeness to the cats.
The size of fossa is not too big; it is around 70-80 cm and the other characteristic feature it has is the long claws. This animal eats some other animals including the lizards, rats, and birds.
14. Frigatebird
Frigatebird is well-known for its aggressiveness. The habit is attacking and even stealing the foods from the other birds. This bird has a pair of quite long wings as well as the tail and the beak. Meanwhile, it also has a pocket on the neck area ion red. In the mating seasons, the Frigatebird inflates its pocket to attract the opposite sex.
Frigatebird is also an ocean bird with the spreading area of around the tropical Atlantic. The colonies are found in the Caribbean trees and Verde Cape islands.
15. Ferret
Ferret is a general name for groups of predator mammals from the family of Viverridae. It is known as a nocturnal animal and most of them are really good climbers. Although the original habitats are in the forest and bushes, the ferret can survive well in the urban areas. It eats the smaller animals including the chicken and rats.
There are many types of ferret anyway. Some of them are simply found in our daily life like the water weasel, civet ferret, and binturong.
16. Fire Ant
The fire ant is one of the ant genus namely Solenopsis. Compared to the other ants, the size is a little bit bigger with the length up to 33 mm. Meanwhile, the queen is much longer which is up to 6 mm. The color is reddish brown and they live in colonies of around 100,000 ants per colony.
As the lodges, the ants make something like a mound from the soil. The mound is made in the open land so that it is radiated by the sunshine. If the black ants may make you only feel itchy when they bite you, the fire ant’s bites tend to be more painful.
17. Flea
The flea refers to any type of tiny arthropods, crustacean, and some types of insects. It is even used for the Acarina family that is actually much closer to the spiders. Those many animals are called flea for the sizes that are really small and even some of them cannot be seen with the bare eyes.
The animals are also really close to the human’s daily life since they are considered as the disturbing pests. Some types are found in the bed so that they called as the bug bed. Meanwhile, some others can even live on your heads and hair, known as the lice.
18. Flying Fish
The flying fish is known also as Toran, classified in the family of Exocetidae. Actually, this is only a general term. There are around 50 species of the fish and most of them live in the tropical and subtropical oceans.
The fish is actually not literally flying. It is due to the strong push from the tail that makes the flying fish is able to soar in the sky. Uniquely, the wings are the modifications from the fins.
19. Flying Squirrel
The flying squirrel is known also the sugar glider. The physical appearance, in general, indeed looks like the other squirrels. But it is equipped by the wings that are formed when this animal stretches out both the arms and the legs.
Meanwhile, this animal also has a very thick fur as well as the big eyes in the darker colors. This is a nocturnal animal and there are around 15 genuses of the flying squirrels in the world. This way, their habitats are also varied depending on its type.
20. Fishing Cat
The fishing cat is one of the wild cats with the medium size commonly found in the area of Southeast Asia. If any other cats may be afraid of the water, this cat’s habitats are near the water including around the lakes, rivers, and swamps.
There is not much information about this animal due to its rarity. The existence if the fishing cat is indeed threatened by the destruction of wetlands. So, it is expected that people may concern more about this type of cat to keep them exist.
